John Hunt and his first wife probably had additional children, other than Julius and Morgan, named William, Mose, Julia (who married a Mr. Pfieffer), Stephen, Acie, and Manville. These were stated to be aunts and uncles of Green Hunt by one of Green's grandchildren.² John served in the Civil War, first with the Union Army, then again with the Confederate Forces. This was probably because of initially siding with the political sentiments of the North, then changing to defend his home against guerilla raids later in the war.² John and Nancy and their older children went by wagon from West Virginia to Oklahoma. They stayed there for 2 or 3 years but then moved on because of the harsh climate. With the family of John Schoonover they traveled to Elaine, Oregon, and then on to Swofford Valley in Washington State. They encountered many Indians along the way.² The Hunts settled finally in Lewis Co., Washington, about 1895. John bought the old Shires place on Sulphur Creek. He was a carpenter and stone cutter. He built a grist mill and made the stone burrs for grinding from some large granite rocks along Sulphur Creek near the falls. He had the first grist mill in the area, run by water power.²
