He was born on 11 April 1853 at Ralls County, MO.3 He was shown as born in April 1853 at Illinois, according to the 1900 US Census of King Co., WA, but this is almost certainly in error.4 He was the son of Aaron Turner and Elizabeth Shaver.3

He married Martha Lavina Rathbun, daughter of Maurice Rathbun and Elotia Julia Brooks, on 30 December 1879 at Liberty, Woodson Co., KS.5

George Samuel Turner died on 10 March 1921 at Seattle, King Co., Washington, at age 67.3,6 He was cremated on 13 March 1921 at Evergreen Cemetery, Seattle, King, Washington. According to the genealogical records of Mary Glennis Graham Turner, based on interviews with other family members, he was buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Seattle. However, his death certificate states that he was cremated. In Nov 1999, I visited Evergreen Cemetery and the staff could find no record of his remains, in the cemetery or columbarium.3,5

George Samuel Turner appeared on the census of 1860 at Lick Creek, Salt River Twp, Ralls Co., Missouri; he was listed as age 7.7

George Samuel Turner appeared on the census of 1870 at Hannibal, Marion Co., Missouri; he was listed as age 17, single, living in the household of Aaron Turner.8

George Samuel Turner appeared on the census of 1880 at Union, Marion Co., Missouri; living on a farm near his father, Aaron Turner, and next to his brother, James W. No children are listed. Occupation shown as "works on farm."9

Between 1880 and 1881, George Samuel Turner and Martha Lavina Rathbun resided at (probably) Blair, Washington Co., Nebraska.10 Circa January 1881, George Samuel Turner were living at with Martha's parents in Owl Creek, Yates Center, Woodson Co., KS.10 Then they were back at Blair, Washington Co., Nebraska, circa 1882.10,11 November 1883, they again visited her parents in Owl Creek, Kansas for an indefinite period because of lack of work in Nebraska.12

George and Martha then migrated in 1886 to Seattle, Washington Territory.10

While waiting for the cabin on their homestead to be ready, the family stayed at a house at 9th Ave and Pine St, near the later site of the Paramount Theater in downtown Seattle.5 In 1887, they were living in a log cabin at their Lake Tahuya homestead, Seabeck, Kitsap, Washington where their four youngest children were born.10,13

After the homestead had been proven, the family moved in 1897 to 1142 61st N.W., Seattle, King, Washington.5 Then, in 1898 the family lived at 5804 14th Ave N.W., Seattle, King, Washington.5

From 1900 to 1918, in Ballard, Seattle, Washington George was the owner of the Turner Transfer and Express Company, making a business, in a large part, hauling the belongings of employees working at the many sawmills in the Ballard area.5 George S. Turner purchased from his brother, Levi M. Turner, property near Bothell WA of approximately 53/100 acres for a price of $100.14
