It has been assumed that Bethoc of Scotland was the mother of Maldred, but there is no direct evidence whether or not it is true. In an article in The Scottish Genealogist 25 (1978):98, by Geoffrey W.S. Barrow, any connection between Maldred and the Royal House of Scotland is disclaimed.^4,5 (?) Bethoc of Scotland was also known as Beatrix.⁶
