They were deeply religious and saintly people and when a child I visited in their home. Sunday was devoted to attending church and Sunday school. The Sunday dinner had been prepared on Saturday and no work of any kind was done in the home. Their grandson, Harry E. Brooks, who was in their home every summer of the first eleven years of his life, testifies:
"My grandfather Orville Brooks was one of the most god-like persons I have ever known. He was patriarchal; having the resoluteness of an Abraham and the quiet confidenceof a Samuel. He ordered his household with calm trust in God, diligent labor and constant dependence on prayer and the Holy Scriptures for his guidance in life. For several years he was a bridge builder on the Ontario and Western R.R. My grandmother reminded me of what Timothy's grandmother Lois must have been like... possessing "unfeigned faith." She had a penetrating intellect; a dispassionate view on life; quiet but firm control of her children; she walked in the ways of God, and summoned her offspring to follow her."⁴

     Paul Adin Brooks was also known as Adin Paul Brooks.² He was widowed on 17 July 1924 at Landour, India, by the death of Marian Skinner Brooks.² He graduated in Chemistry from Colorado College in 1917, then served in the Army in World War I. Later he received a Master's degree in Chemistry from George Washington University. He went to India in 1923 as a missionary under the Presbyterian Board of Foreign Missions. He was stationed at the Agricultural Institute at Allahabad where he was the head of the Chemistry department. His second wife, Eleanor Mary, an English nurse, also worked at the Institute.²

Paul E. Brooks went to Kansas as a young man and became a machinist in the employ of the railroad; later he took a correspondence course and became a mechanical engineer. The family lived in Denver and La Junta, CO. They finally settled in Colorado Springs where they lived the rest of their lives. Paul Brooks was a Christian gentleman and an Elder in the Presbyterian Church for 35 years. Sadie Brooks was a fine wife and mother and excellent manager of her home, always active in the work of the church. She taught the Womans Bible Class for 15 or more years. She was also treasurer of the church for many years and was holding theser two offices at the time of her death at the age of 85 years. Among the cherished memories held by their children were regular habits of the blessing of food at meals and family prayers after dinner each evening. If visitors dropped in they were invited to join in the devotions. Nothing was allowed to interfere with this. Mr. and Mrs. Brooks were the mainstays of the church which was, in the early years, small and struggling. They were the ones who kept it together when differences arose among its members. Their influence is felt in the church even years after their passing.⁴
