     She was born on 11 November 1843 at St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada. She was the daughter of Chester Stillman Johnson and Frances Elizabeth Frew.

Mary Amanda Johnson married James Glendenning Ralston, son of John Ralston and Margaret Glendenning, on 28 February 1863 at Kincardine, Ontario, Canada; In the Ralston Bible is the following inscription:
"This is to certify that James Glendenning Ralston of the village of Kincardine, Co. Bruce, Ont. and Mary Amanda Johnson of the Village of Kincardine, Co. Bruce, Ont. were by me united together in Holy Matrimony on the twenty-eighth day of February in the year of our Lord One Thousand eight hundred and sixty-three.

Eveline was Mary Amanda Johnson's sister; Robert MacPherson was a close friend of James G. Ralston. After the death of James, Robert became the guardian of the Ralston children. The older ones fondly recalled him, remembering his kindness and solicitude. One recollection [by my grandmother, Ida] is of his concern when some of them went out on Lake Huron in rough weather. He stood on the dock, his kilts and "plaidie" fluttering in the wind, beckoning and shouting "Bairies! Come awa' oot! Come awa' oot!"¹

Mary Amanda Johnson married(2) George Elliot Jeffers on 3 February 1881 at Council Bluffs, Iowa.¹

Mary Amanda Johnson died on 20 March 1925 at Cheyenne, Laramie Co., Wyoming, USA, at age 81.¹ She was buried at Lakeview Cemetery, Cheyenne, WY.¹
     

Until about 1877, Amanda lived in Bervie. After that time, until about 1895, she had a home on the southwest corner of Huron Terrace and Lambton Street, in Kincardine.⁴ She appeared on the census of 25 April 1910 at 14th Ward, Seattle, King, Washington; living with her daughter, Amanda Glendenning.⁵

     She is the daughter of Milton Johnson and Esther Wright. She married Rev. Henry Austin.
